The JOB Group and Intercable have developed a device to make fire hazards in electric vehicles manageable. According to the companies, E-Bulb is effectively the world's smallest fire extinguisher, which improves the fail-safety of batteries by preventing a chain reaction and thus a fire if the lithium-ion batteries overheat. The solution is a self-contained thermomechanical disconnect switch that ensures maximum safety and reliability in conjunction with an electronic shutdown system. With Thermofuse, Intercable has developed a high-voltage disconnector that opens independently and irreversibly when a fixed temperature inside the energy storage device is exceeded. An extremely robust glass ampoule similar to that used in a sprinkler system is used as the actuator - the E-Bulb.
