General Motors’ third-generation EV platform, based on its in-house-developed Ultium-branded batteries, motors and power electronics, will hit the road in late 2021 on the GMC Hummer EV, and in early 2022 on the Cadillac Lyriq, a luxury sport-utility electric vehicle. Mike Harpster leads the team developing Ultium vehicle propulsion systems. “[That’s] everything required to make the wheels turn,” said Harpster, who was global Chief Engineer for the Chevrolet Volt. He has been devoted to vehicle electrification for 16 of his 26 years at GM.
