As the first days of 2020 unfolded, it was clear that many producers Australia's grape and wine sector wouldn't be spared from the first of the year's unforeseen challenges. That summer's bushfires ravaged regions across New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria. Not only did we see the heartbreaking sights of charred vines and winery facilities, but even more growers were adversely affected by the spread of smoke which widely blanketed regions and rendered entire crops unusable. Of course, many parts of the eastern states had been deep into prolonged drought by the time 2020 arrived, and by season's end, some producers in NSW and Queensland in particular had fully lost their fruit to the harsh conditions.
