Tuberculosis is a global health challenge,1 which is responding to concerted efforts using novel strategies, including DOTS (directly observed therapy, short course). DOTS is a patient-centric approach, in which patients visit a designated health care facility to receive antitubercular therapy (ATT).2 The health care worker observes the patient swallow the pills, ensuring adherence, preventing misuse, encouraging regular patient-provider contact and facilitating early recognition of adverse events.
