Insurers are keen to understand the impact of the International Maritime Organization's (IMO's) regulations on low-sulphur fuels that came into force on 1 January 2020 and the ongoing rise in slow steaming by vessels.This is according to Astrid Seltmann, analyst and actuary with the Nordic Association of Marine Insurers (Cefor). Speaking at a webinar organised by the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI), Seltmann provided an analysis of vessel losses and frequency."Since the IMO introduced the requirement for lower sulphur emissions,we have seen owners adopting different strategies to meet those requirements. Some have introduced scrubbers, others have switched to new fuels.
