摘要

Michelia retusa (Magnoliaceae), a critically endangered new species from Hainan, China is described. This species is similar to M. yunnanensis, but differs from the latter in having obovate-oblong, elliptic, obovate or obcordate leaf blades with usually emarginated apexes, petioles without a stipular scar and flowers with smaller outer tepals, longer stamens and glabrous carpels.
