A recent application of the Social Footprint (SF) method calculates and reports corporate social bottom lines for global warming. (The social footprint concept, developed by the Vermont, USA-based Center for Sustainable Innovation, was described in BATE, June 2006.) The SF is related to the more familiar ecological footprint that focuses on the sustain- ability of human behaviors in terms of their ecological impacts. The SF application for global warming, on the other hand, calculates and reports how much a company is contributing to the mitigation of anthropogenic global warming. This analysis assesses the sustainability of organizational operations in terms of their social impacts on strategies for achieving climate change mitigation (www.footprintnetwork.org).
