On 12 June in London, the Institute of Social and Ethical AccountAbility (AccountAbility) is unveiling a package of principles, standards, and guidelines called an assurance framework. It is a way to guarantee the reliability of non-financial corporate reports, such as social and environmental performance reports, as well as a company's management systems underlying them. The framework is the equivalent of generally accepted accounting principles for auditing and verification. AccountAbility is the not-for-profit coalition of organizations and ethical accounting professionals. It developed AA 1000, the standard for managers to follow to blend stakeholder engagement and dialog into day-to-day company activities (see BATE, January 2000).
