Data from US auto club AAA showed that the national average price for regular-grade gasoline jumped by 6.7c/gal over the week ending Feb. 4 to hit $3.423/gal—the fifth weekly rise after having slipped in the previous eight weeks. The Feb.-4 price was 98.0c/gal higher on the year and 51.167/gal higher than the pre-pandemic level of three years earlier. The national average price for E85 (85% ethanol and 15% petroleum-based gasoline) rose by 5.2c/gal from the previous Friday to $3.068/gal. The Feb.-4 price was 92.8c/gal higher on the year and $1.051/gal higher than three years earlier. The national average retail price for diesel rose for a fifth consecutive week after having declined for six weeks in a row. In the week to Feb. 4, the price surged by 7.1c/gal to hit $3.771/gal, and it was higher on the year by $1.104/gal and was 85.4jz!/gal higher than it had been three years earlier.
