South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy (METI) recently convened an emergency meeting with the country's crude importers and state-run integrated oil company Korea National Oil Corp. (KNOC) to discuss actions the South Korean government could undertake to "help reduce refiners feedstock cost burden." A METI official said among the actions discussed were a release of more oil from South Korea's Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). The METI official did not elaborate on the specific volume and crude grades to be released on top of the 3.17MM bbl that were previously announced to be dispatched from South Korea's SPR this quarter amid a broader global SPR release led by the US.
