While ethanol producers have lauded US President Donald Trump’s recent push for year-round sales of El 5(gasoline blended with 15 ethanol)they have expressed great displeasure with the big increase in the number of Renewable Fuels Standard waivers granted to small refineries this year.Mr.Trump has also rankled the ethanol industry with his protectionist trade policies and,more specifically,the trade war with China.Major ethanol producers Green Plains Inc.and Pacific Ethanol Inc.reported losses in their 3Q earnings reports as several producers were forced to reduce runs or to idle entire plants.
