According to three people familiar with the matter,the US energy major has held talks with the Brazilian state energy firm about the purchase of its Texas refining subsidiary Pasadena Refining System Inc.(PRSI)which operates a HOK-b/d refinery on the Houston Ship Channel that can process light crude.Last month,the Head of Refining and Chemicals at Chevron Corp.,Pierre Breber,said the company wanted to build or buy a refinery along the US Gulf Coast to process crude from its Permian operations,where 2Q output was up 51 on the year to 270K boe/d.Garfield Miller,CEO of energy investment bank Aegis Energy Advisors,noted that the shale boom has given a second chance to US refineries designed to process lighter crudes like Pasadena.”Anyone with crude in the Permian might logically want to own it.This refinery today has value,whereas eight or nine years,ago it had none.”
