摘要

The $5B project was finished in June 2016, allowing for the passage of much larger tankers, which are the industry standard for petroleum-related products. In the past, Panamax vessels (80K dwt with an under 39.5-foot draft) were the largest tankers that could use the canal, but the project has made passage possible for Aframax vessels (120K dwt). LPG showed 449 transits through the Canal in fiscal 2016, but that figure jumped to 876 in 2017. LNG transits soared from 17 to 163 in the same timeframe. This increased traffic has amplified the importance of the Texas/Louisiana coast as a PC hub.
