CEO Sjoerd Post said a leak on a pipeline connecting the refinery to Auckland last Sept. that resulted in an unplanned shutdown at the plant negatively impacted 2017 net profit by $8.2MM. It cost $6.0MM to repair the leak and cost the company $6.3MM in processing fees and $2.0MM in distribution fees resulting from supply disruptions. New Zealand Refining (NZ Refining) did report a 66% year-on-year increase in net profit last year despite the pipeline leak to $78.5MM, supported by a higher refining margin which averaged $8.02/bbl.
