Accordingly weekly data published on Jan. 11 by the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), US crude production shot up by 176K b/d from the week before. Weekly EIA data is generally considered less reliable than the organization's monthly reports—though the figures refer to the week just past, the number is in fact a forecast, based on the latest available information and released while empirical data is still being compiled—the report may be worth some additional scrutiny this week. According to Bloomberg oil strategist Julian.Lee, the Jan. 11 report was important because most of the increase in production recorded—about 100K b/d of it—was due to a revision of 4Q 2016 production figures.
