Spot product prices fell in the week to July 8, as inventories for most products rose, demand was weak, and oil futures prices slid. The market was closed on Wednesday, July 6 for a public holiday. Gasoil and jet fuel prices inched down but differentials were lifted by tightening inventories, as Singaporean stock data on Thursday showed that middle distillate inventories slid for the third straight week, settling at a six-week low. A recent increase in diesel exports to South America has helped draw down Asia's ample stocks, but traders noted that the increase in Singapore-to-Asia flows is likely to be temporary. Meanwhile, China has continued to export large volumes of diesel into the Asian market, but firm demand in South and Southeast Asia, along with the shipments to South America, are keeping fundamentals in balance. China's exports averaged 1.1MM mt/month (8.3MM b/month) during the first five months of the year, up sharply from 597K mt/month (4.5MM b/month) during the same period last year.
