The US midstream firm announced on July 14 that it plans to construct a 1MM-bbl refined products marine terminal along the Houston Ship Channel in Pasadena, TX. Magellan Midstream Partners said the new marine terminal will cost $335MM and should be operational by early-2019 pending regulatory approvals. Magellan says it will seek long-term customer commitments for the terminal, which will be connected via a 36-in (92-cm) pipeline to an existing Magellan refined products terminal in Galena Park, TX and an 18-in (46-cm) pipeline to Magellan assets in Texas City, TX. Magellan said it could add further pipeline capacity at the new terminal to connect to third-party refineries and terminals in the Gulf Coast. Should demand warrant Magellan could eventually expand the new marine terminal to 10MM bbl with up to five docks.
