The Mexican national oil company has reported an 83.5B MXN ($4.4B) loss in 2Q 2016, up slightly from an 84.6 MXN loss the year before. Sources said that the improvement was due to a tax relief measure implemented in April, which allows Pemex choose a deduction equal to either 12 of its oil income, or $6.50/bbl, whichever is more advantageous. This resulted in a total tax obligation for the company of 68B MXN ($3.6B) in the quarter, down on the year by 38. That benefit appears to have wiped out the impact of lower crude prices in the quarter just past; Pemex' exports brought in an average of $36.69/bbl in 2Q 2016, down from $52.92/bbl a year before.
