One of the world's leading tobacco companies has failed in a legal attempt to prevent a ban being introduced in Scotland on displaying tobacco products in shops. Imperial Tobacco challenged the right of the Scottish parliament to introduce legislation to ban the open display of tobacco products in shops and end the sale of cigarettes from vending machines. It said that this move amounted to the regulation of the sale and supply of goods, which is a power that is reserved to the Westminster parliament.
