摘要

According to sources highly placed in Nigeria's ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Party, the country's new president Muhammadu Buhari has been advised by his transition committee—a group of 19 advisors drawn from the APC—to privatize the country's four refineries and eliminate Nigeria's fuel subsidies. In the past, Nigeria's attempts to scale back fuel subsidies have been met with strong resistance from the public, though the country's previous administration, led by President Goodluck Jonathan who left office a few weeks ago, had been successful in cutting the subsidy budget for 2015 by 90, as lower crude prices pinched state finances and lower fuel prices made the move an easier pill for drivers to swallow. As for Nigeria's four refineries, the committee was said to have recommended selling them to get the cost of maintenance off the government's back.
