The company has announced its latest US unconventional acquisition of 70K acres (28K ha) in a liquid-rich area of the Marcellus shale play in West Virginia and Ohio, with the agreement taking effect Sept. 1 and closing officially on Dec. 18. Statoil gained early access to US shale in 2008, when it partnered with Chesapeake Energy Corp.
