摘要

A group of researchers based at the Univ. of Texas at Arlington (UTA) claim that conversion of CO2 to methanol is possible via the use of copper oxide nanowires, In the UTA process, the walls of copper oxide (CuO) nanorods were coated with crystallites derived from another type of copper oxide (CU2O). The coated rods were then submerged into a C02-rich water-based solution. The submerged rods were then exposed to simulated sunlight which led to photo-electrochemical reduction of the CO2 to methanol. CuO and Q12O were chosen for the process as both are photo-active and possess complementary solar light absorption.
