The Anglo-Dutch oil major has offered to sell its stake in Ceska Rafinerska, having approached both the Czech refiner's other shareholders and the Czech government. According to Czech Republic Industry Minster Martin Kuba, negotiations are underway, though shareholders Unipetrol and Eni are contractually guaranteed an option to purchase before any other deal can be struck. Shell owns a 16.33 stake in Rafinerska, which owns the 110K-b/d Litinov and the 55K-b/d Kralupy refineries. Eni holds 32.4, while Unipetrol, a segment of Polish PKN Orlen, holds a 51 share. Neither company has commented on the matter, though Unipetrol has indicated in the past its willingness to increase its share in the refiner. If neither shareholder is prepared to buy, the stake may play into the government's interest in creating a state oil company by merging state pipeline operators Mero and Cepro.
