On June 13, US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz announced that he planned to act "expeditiously" to start the process of evaluating applications from various companies to export liquefied natural gas (LNG). The Department of Energy had begun to approve applications in May, granting Fteeport LNG permission to export to all countries from its terminal in Texas. But Moniz, who took up his post on May 21, put a stop to further applications soon afterward, citing a need to review the data that the department had used to come to a decision. Now, Moniz has said that the application review process will begin again, and has promised that decisions on a case-by-case basis would "absolutely" begin to be handed down before the end of 2013.
