Anew word entered the vocabulary of Australian ceramics years ago. That word is Gulgong. An example of a normal sentence in which it is used is: Are you going to Gulgong?' Or, 'Did you go to Gulgong?' This means: will you, or did you, attend the latest ceramics event in the town of Gulgong? Among Australian ceramics people the town name has become synonymous with these meetings. There have now been ten ceramics based events in Gulgong, a small town in the state of NSW, about four hours drive north-west of Sydney. A group of Masters are brought in to do extended workshops and talk about their work. Hundreds of people attend to observe and learn. Accompanying this are exhibitions, shop front displays, individuals selling each other ceramics, and group meals with intense conversations in pubs. Generally a convivial time is had by all.
