Prints have long been used in Britain to disseminate hard-hitting political and social commentary, whereas ceramics are rarely as confrontational. Many exceptions are among the pugnacious mugs, jugs and plates selected for Pots with attitude: British satires on ceramics, 1760-1830, a display at the British Museum, London, from 12 January to 11 March 2018, supported by the Monument Trust. In this exhibition, utilitarian creamwares and pearl-wares are transformed with images appropriated uniting political prints and transfer-printed ceramics, two great British traditions, is part of a one-year Monument Trust funded curatorial project to champion interactions between 18th century prints and ceramics.
