According to Reuters analyst Robert Campbell, despite a perceived shortness in US gasoline supply highlighted by inventories at a 1.6MM b/d deficit to year-ago-levels, Campbell states the supply situation is not as tight as it seems as the PADD 5 region is currently "extraordinarily tight" and is the sole cause of US gasoline tightness. In PADD 1 for example, gasoline supplies are 2.9MM bbl higher than the same level a year ago while Gulf Coast stocks are 1.8MM bbl higher. Gasoline production is also set to increase in front of the summer driving season as refinery utilization rates were up to 88.3% last week, the highest level seen since last Nov.
