In the week to May 11, US crude prices posted a modest increase on Thursday to snap a six-session spree of decreases, but fell again on Friday to mark the biggest two-week percentage loss since Sept. 2011. Over the last two weeks, US crude lost $8.80/bbl, or 8.4. The Thursday rise was sparked by firm jobs data in the US that showed a fall in initial jobless claims for the week ending May 4, as well as a decline in the four-week moving average. Adding to the day's bullish mood was another report that showed a widening of the US trade deficit in March, with imports climbing and exports hitting a record high, indicating strengthening demand. Limiting Thursday's upside, however, was lackluster Chinese trade data and higher OPEC crude production.
