The European Commissioner for taxation policy, Algirdas Semeta, is urging carmakers to stop opposing and start supporting the EU fuel taxation that would likely halt an increase in diesel use. Semeta said carmakers would have a decade to adapt engine production to a new regime and it would take five to seven years for new engines to develop.
