In developing its scenarios, the Mont Fleur scenario team drew extensively on historical examples. Although some of our team members accepted Marx's analysis of how societies are inexorably transformed by a dialectical process and some others were free marketeers and sympathetic to Rostow's Stages of Economic Development analysis, the scenarios as such were not teleological. Historical analysis enriched the scenario exercise in many instances, but there was no attempt to discover or accept historical laws that would in the long run determine outcomes.
