After the US announced banning travelers from 26 European countries on March 12 in response to the coronavirus outbreak,the spread between jet fuel and Singapore and 10 ppm-sulfur diesel fell to a $3.86/bbl discount on the same day,which was the lowest since Aug.13 2015,showed S&P Global Platts data.Prices for jet fuel($40.97/bbl)at Singapore and 10 ppm-sulfur diesel($4.82/bbl)were 49% and 45% lower on the year,respectively.According to Wood Mackenzie Principal Analyst Mark Williams,the ban on European travel may cause jet fuel consumption to drop by 200-250K b/d.Williams added,”Refiners are also likely to lower jet yields and blend more jet fuel into the distillate pool to accommodate lower jet demand,adding further pressure to already weak distillate cracks.”The ban is effective March 14 and the UK and Ireland,which were exempted earlier,were included as announced on March 14.
