Japanese HMS 2 prices in South Korea increased by $11/t to $436-443/t CFR over the past month. Quotes for Japanese H2 in Vietnam were unchanged over the period at $440-450/t CFR. The Chinese domestic steel market will weigh on the steel scrap quotes in Asia in March. Metal Expert estimates that Chinese traders and finished steel producers significantly increased their inventories ahead of the spring recovery in the construction industry. But given the shaky economic situation, the rapid spread of the pandemic and the ongoing crisis in the construction segment, the hopes of local market participants for a rapid increase in consumption in the spring may not materialise that much.
