In late December, square billet is available in Turkiye's home market at $600-605/t EXW, up $18/t month-on-month. Import semis quotes have increased just by $5/t to $545-555/t CFR over the period under review. The Turkish scrap market will not contribute to strengthening of billet prices next month. Turkish steelmakers will resist price increases from raw material suppliers due to the low activity in the longs segment, coupled with a noticeable decline in profitability and difficulties in selling rebar at high prices, Metal Expert estimates. Yet, there may be no significant adjustment of scrap quotes due to a seasonal decrease in scrap collection and small volumes of available material at US and European yards.
