Merchandise exports (free on board-fob) from Switzerland totalled US$432.7bn in 2021, up from US$353-5bn in 2020. Merchandise imports (fob) stood at US$322.2bn in 2021 to yield a trade surplus of US$110.5bn, compared with imports of US$29obn in 2020 and a US$63.5bn surplus. The services balance had a deficit of US$19.6bn in 2021, compared with a deficit of US$19.2bn in 2020. According to the Swiss Federal Customs Administration (now the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security), chemical and pharmaceutical products represented the largest share of exports in 2021, accounting for around half (50.4) of the export bill, followed by machinery, equipment and electronics, watches and precision instruments. Chemical and pharmaceutical products accounted for the largest share (27.3) of the import bill, followed by machinery, vehicles, metals, and textiles and clothing. The US was the largest single export destination, followed by Germany, Spain, Slovenia and Italy. Germany was the largest single supplier of imports, followed by Italy, China, France and the US.
