India has announced introduction of wheat export ban starting from the middle of May, although just a week ago the country was planning to export record 10 million tonnes of wheat, and even more, in MY 2022-23 (lasting from 1 April 22 to 31 March 23). The government was forced to take this decision in order to curb rapid domestic inflation caused by intense export trade, as well as due to unfavorable weather conditions, which may hurt future harvest. The government says that it is not a final decision, and it can be reconsidered after domestic prices stabilize. The experience showed that wheat quotes on the home market really decreased right after introduction of wheat export ban.
