In light of the energy shortfall caused by the Russia-Ukraine crisis, the UK has lifted the moratorium on the hydraulic fracturing (fracking), which was implemented in 2019, to produce shale oil. The government is even looking to offer 1K ($1,097.10) payouts to households that allow fracking in their neighborhoods. Energy body UK Onshore Oil and Gas's Director of Policy (UKOOG) cited the British Geological Survey's data showing that there could be up to 37.6 trillion m3 of shale gas in reserves, 10% of which could meet the UK's energy requirements for 50 years.
