God’s Trees explores what we can find out about trees, woods and forests mentioned in the Bible 2,000 plus years after it was written. More than this, it tries to enrich our understanding of context including some knotty and thorny questions - forgive the puns!God’s Trees is a coffee table book with many illustrations and written as a commentary working through the Bible, followed by a 20-page species compendium. It is unlike any other book I’ve written: it was even a finalist in the nonfiction section of the People’s Book Prize in 2014. And it had a long gestation. Three chapters were in draft and lots of research completed back in the mid-1980s when the then publisher went bust. All this languished until I was approached - a whole career and several other books later - by DayOne (Leominster) in 2009.
