Delamination buckling and growth are failure scenarios that lessen the structural integrity of laminated composite structural members. An experimental investigation of this failure mechanism in a two-dimensional setting is carried out. When adelamination of an arbitrary planform is present at the edge of a structure, the response of the delamination may involve regions or points of contact with the undelaminated portion of the structure beneath it. The effect of this physical constraint isinvestigated by compressing model specimens that contain edge delaminations of rectangular planform with a fixed aspect ratio and varying thickness. Holographic interferometry is used to capture the deformation of the delaminated region, in particular,the deformation associated with the debond, so that insight into the growth of the debond can be obtained.
