For as long as I can remember, the symbolic light bulb has been synonymous with a bright idea. It is ironic then to think what exactly was lighting the mind of Nick Holonyak, Jr. who developed the first practical visible-spectrum LED in 1962 while working as a consulting scientist at a General Electric Company laboratory in Syracuse, New York. His brilliant idea has propelled into a beneficial and dynamic field of lighting that continues to gain momentum and excitement with each leap of improvement.
