The Fiduciary Agency for Project Administration of the Ministry of Planning, Finance and the Blue Economy of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe invites sealed bids by 22 April for the design and undertaking of civil works relating to the rehabilitation and expansion of the 4 MW Contador hydro plant on Sao Tome, the larger of the island nation's two main islands.The overhaul of the run-of-river plant, is being co-financed by the World Bank under the Power Sector Recovery Project. The plant, located in Roca Ponta Figo, has been in operation for about 50 years, and as a result of poor maintenance only about 2 MW of its capacity is operating. At full capacity the plant accounts for 11 per cent of the country's firm energy.The rehabilitation and extension of the plant is designed to raise the conveyance capacity of the system and storage capacity at the forebay for peak load demand, and increase the plant's installed power.
