摘要

So much has happened between the moment we sent our last issue to press and today. So many good things, but also one horrible, frustrating, and unbelievable event that has tainted the evergrowing world of aviation that we all live in. I am talking about the crash of Lamia 2933 on the hills of Medellin, Colombia. That foolish, irresponsible tragedy that should have been avoided by the Captain himself, as well as a number of other people who hopefully will be investigated and brought to justice. These very same words are part of a strong Op-Ed that I wrote and published on our website, ainoaysmag.com, which narrates my first-hand experience on the night of the crash, analyzing the likely cause of a perfectly-fit Avro RJ85 plummeting down to earth killing 71 passengers. Tragedies like this one put a big question mark on an industry that moves the world safely and efficiently. It puts a big stain on the reputation of millions of Pilots who strive to become better professionals and fly their planes with integrity and pride. And even though the official results of the crash investigation haven't been released, the likely cause of this accident was fuel starvation, which directly puts the Captain to blame. In my Op-Ed, I note how, as soon as I saw the images, the idea of them running out of fuel came to mind. Yes, that unimaginable thing. In this 21st century, how can someone, ever, run out of fuel? And this question will sadly never be answered.I urge you to go online and take a peek. I hope you'll agree with my point of view after reading. Now, putting this crash aside, our monthly duty to showcase the best the world of commercial aviation has to offer continues. We travel to the Nordic country of Finland to visit Finnair at its spectacular headquarters; we take you to the US/Mexico border to see Tijuana Airport; analyze the interesting background of Piedmont Airlines; jump on the time machine and meet Ecuatoriana Airlines; and learn about the restoration of an old Boeing 707. We have also included a special section where we list all the aviation-related events that will take place in 2017, some of which Airways will be covering. As usual, let us know your thoughts. Our lines are always open for you!
