A campaign by US Republicans to push back against President Joe Biden's COVID-19 vaccine mandate is likely to have little effect among US airlines, most of which have already moved to ensuring almost all their employees are vaccinated. Republicans are maneuvering to link the vaccine mandate directly to the Democratic president and to frame it as an infringement of individual freedom. "These big government mandates strip away people's rights to make the best decision for themselves, but we are going to protect Florid-ians from federal and local government overreach," said Florida governor Ron De Santis, who could be a 2024 presidential candidate if former President Donald Trump does not run. For most US airlines, the campaign is a moot point. All of the industry's big names-American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines-have taken steps to get the large majorities of their employees vaccinated and most seem to be succeeding.
