AFTER Pan American Airways began operations in 1927, it soon became clear that Trippe was intent on operating routes south of the Caribbean and around the entire continent of South America. His most important destination, according to Ron Davies in Pan Am-An Airline and Its Aircraft, was Buenos Aires, the so-called 'Paris of South America'.
