Which Alexander is the real Great? Spun off from the former Yugoslavia in 1991, the young and tiny Republic of Macedonia ticks off Greece, which accuses it of stealing the name Macedonia and possibly its entire Hellenic heritage. Besides the current Macedonia region of northern Greece there's also the issue of Ancient Macedonia, Alexander the Great, etc. Further annoying the Greeks, the Macedonian government renamed Skopje Airport (SKP) as Skopje Alexander the Great Airport. But the Greek Macedonians also have an airport of that name—formerly Kavala International (KVA) until it became Megas Alexandras, or 'Alexander the Great', in 1992. Actually, because both SKP and KVA have exactly one runway apiece, each asphalt and each under 10,000ft (3,050m) long, perhaps both should be called 'Alexander the Less-Than-Great Airport'.
