BY THE END of 1973, Delta had parked all of its Convairs in Wichita, while TWA operated its last 880 flight, from Chicago (ORD) to Kansas City (MCI), on June 15, 1974. Swissair (SR) operated its final 990M flight from Nice (NCE) to Geneva (GVA) on January 7, 1975. The same year, Cathay Pacific, the last of the original customers to operate Convair jets, sold its 880Ms to Air Trust Singapore, which flew charter flights, mostly for the oilbusiness, from Singapore Seletar (XSP) to Pakistan, Egypt, and the Arabian Gulf, as well as sub-charters in Europe on behalf of Air Malta (KM). One of these aircraft (N8806E ? MSN 22-00-21) was detained in Lisbon (LIS) in 1980 with an illegal shipment of arms, and was subsequently sold to a private owner to pay the parking fees. It ended its days as a roadside restaurant and, later, as a strip club near LIS, where it was scrapped in April 2008.
