Despite the early hour, our collective adrenaline was surging. This would be my fourth inaugural following the Singapore Airlines Airbus A380, ANA (All Nippon Airways) 787, and Lufthansa 747-8 Intercontinental (reported in Airways, January 2008, February 2012 & September 2012, respectively). The experience is never the same, and never gets old. Jack and I intended to cover the story via live tweets, blogs, and, of course, for Airways. There was concern that this launch might be devoid of much of the hoopla of other inaugurals, but it did little to dampen our enthusiasm for the maiden service of the first Dreamliner operated by a US airline. Rounding the concourse to Gate E5, we were pleasantly surprised. The gate, festooned with party decorations, was already buzzing with activity, with a generous buffet breakfast laid on for guests.
