Engineering and development of the cable has taken place at GPT Telephone Cables Limited, better-known as TCL and the company already has an order for the new design. The first installation of the 84-fibre cable will support wave division multiplexing (WDM) to provide greatly increased traffic capacity. GPT believes the new cable will prove a popular choice where connection is required across large bodies of water for applications requiring high traffic densities. The cable can be buried deeply - up to 10 m below the sea-bed - for protection against fishing, anchors and dredging.
