The combined operational revenue for the top 20 airlines or airline groups in 2021 was 27% above their 2020 revenue, although that was still 45% below the total from the pre-pandemic 2019 year. Collective net result losses for these carriers in 2021 was more than $31 billion-a significant improvement over their $100 billion combined loss in 2020. Interestingly, the top five carriers in this table for 2021 hold the same operational revenue rankings as they did in 2019, with Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and United Airlines taking first, second and third positions, respectively. Lufthansa Group and Air France-KLM have similarly maintained their fourth-and fifth-place rankings.
