Climate concerns, carbon forestry, emissions reduction from the farming sector and the discussion around fair land use and land use change will remain political in a year with national elections, particularly with the shock change in Labour’s leader. The government announced animportant decision just before the Christmas holidays on the updated carbon credit auction settings. In plain language, that decision is about the number of units available for sale at the government auctions for the next five years, and at what price. Against most expectations, the decision went against the recommendations by the Climate Change Commission to increase prices and decrease auction volumes.
