Nanotechnologies can enhance the properties of textile fabrics by conferring wrinkle-resistance, stain, soil and water-repellency and antistatic, anti-bacteria and anti-ultraviolet protection, while maintaining high fabric durability. Nanotechnologies refer to the ability to manipulate individual atoms and molecules, making it possible to build machines using molecular blocks, or create materials and structures from the bottom upwards. A nanometer is one ten thousandth of the diameter of a human hair, or a billionth of a metre. A nano-particle is a solid particle within the range of 1 to 1,000m that can be non-crystalline an aggregate of crystallites, or a single crystallite. Nano-particles commonly used in commercial products are in the range from 1 to 100 nm.
